Bella's new shoes!

Today Bella and I went to the Little Treasures consignment sale in Louisville. WOW! It was HUGE and I could have spent a fortune. Thankfully, I didn't! Although I bought 15 items for....drum roll please....$66.38! WOO HOO! Of those items were the shoes you see above plus two other pairs of shoes as well. We also got her Christmas dress and her Halloween costume. Wait until you see it!
Anyhow, back to the picture of the shoes above. I tried SO hard to get a picture of her in her new shoes, but she wouldn't stop for a minute while we were at the park to let me. She was running all over the place and having a GREAT time! She thought she was big stuff in her new tennis shoes. :-) And for the lovely pair of Nike shoes I paid only $4.00! WOO HOO! I love deals! I would love to go back on Sunday when it's half-price day, but I'm afraid it either won't be worth my time OR I will get trampled on by some mad women shopping for a good deal! I promise to try and get a pic of her in her shoes soon!

I think you're wonderful!

To those that mean so much to us,
This is a note to tell you how much you are cared about and loved. Yesterday I attended a funeral for an eight-year-old little girl. She was a student at Greenville where I taught and where her mom also worked. She was such a sweet little girl with so many friends. She always lit up a room and had a certain sass about her even in her wheelchair. Even though we all knew that Kayse had a degenerative disease, she lived her life to the fullest and no one around her was ever sad. Going to the visitation on Tuesday I was in utter amazement to watch her parents hold up so well. They were standing around smiling and chatting with family and friends while their precious little girl lay in the casket, which by the way, she looked absolutely beautiful. And yesterday at her funeral I was still in awe of not only her parents, but also her three siblings. I can’t say that I would do that well.
Okay, so why the big elaborate story? To remind us all that we need to live every day as though it is our last. To not take anything or anyone for granted because only God knows how much time we have with them. Love each other unconditionally. Show love to others that we may pass in the street or at the store. Give a helping hand or a compliment to someone because you never know how much that could mean to them. Try to show kindness to at least one person that you see out somewhere every day. If we all did that what a much better world we would live in.
Also, please know how much I/we love you! We are truly blessed with an amazing family and fabulous friends! I know it is sometimes difficult for us as a family and a couple to get out and see our family and friends or do things with you, but please know that it isn’t because we don’t want to. There are times when we can’t get a sitter and Bella is one of those babies that won’t sleep just anywhere. No, she has to sleep in her own bed. And then if we keep her out too late and she gets overly tired we have a greater chance of her waking up with night terrors at some point during the night. And there are things that we would love to go out and do with you, but as our kids would say,”Dave Ramsey says it’s not in the budget!” (we have trained them well!)  We have worked so hard over the past two and a half years to get out of debt. We are almost there! All we have is Aaron’s car loan and my student loan and we will be finished! WOO HOO! So, if anyone has an extra 33k lying around and would like to make a donation to the “McKims Want to Get Out of Debt Fund” we would greatly appreciate it! ;-) I know that is still quite a bit of debt, but much better than the 83k we had when we started. So know we are working diligently to get out of debt and when it’s over we will have more funds to do more things. So keep asking/inviting us and one day the answer will be yes!  (we tell our neighbors this a lot…thankfully they like us the way we are and still invite us over for cookouts and things. We have some awesome neighbors! )
So the moral of my story is that you are loved! Whether you were meant to be in my life/our lives for a moment or a life time you are loved. If I could I would sing the song we sang in kindergarten that goes like this:
I think you’re wonderful
I think you’re marvelous
I think you’re beautiful and magical and filled with curiosity….and dreams!

Thank you for being part of my life/our lives! We love you very much and are so blessed and thankful to know you because you are wonderful, marvelous, and beautiful!

With much love,

The McKims
Aaron, Jenny, Skyla, Garrett, and Arabella

for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long." Psalm 25:5b

If I put my hope in my own desires and abilities, I simply set myself up for failure. My only hope for joy and fulfillment comes from Christ alone. Hope can only be found in Him, not people, careers, husbands, children, church, financial success, a carefree life, or dreams that come true.

Disappointments will always happen. With God, however, we can turn those disappointments into God's appointments to trust Him. The first step is exercise our faith over our feelings.

Dear Lord, You know the hurt in my heart and the sting of disappointments I have experienced. Please help me trust You, instead of being consumed by feelings. Empower me with a faith that is stronger than my emotions. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

AMEN!

Powerful Jesus, that is what I need You to be today. Powerful Jesus. I see the shadow on my life and often I fear that it will overtake me. You have promised that in You, with You, all things are possible. Show me where to move today Jesus, so that I position myself in Your Sonlight. Give me the discipline to study Your words so that my life will be for Your renown and an everlasting sign to others of life in You. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

First Day of School

Today our kids went back to school! Skyla is an eighth grader at OLPH, Garrett is a seventh grader at NHMS, and Bella is almost 16 months old! Since I didn't have to get up and rush to get Garrett, Bella, and me ready this morning I made Garrett some pancakes (which he was too nervous to eat). Then it was time to take the traditional first day of school pic. He really wishes that I would stop this tradition, but it's been in our family a long time and we are not about to break it now! SO, here is Garrett on his first day of school!
I must admit that it is quite strange being home with just Bella knowing that the kids are at school and I am not there teaching a class of my own. It is nice...just different. Bella and I will be in our routine SOON! We start Kindermusik classes on Fridays beginning in September! We can't wait! :-)

Yummy!

Well, so far we have done really well on our 28 Day Challenge. I don't expect our kids to do that great when they are with their other parents. Although it was nice to hear Garrett say that the PopTarts didn't taste very good. =)
So far we have liked everything we have eaten! Portabella mushroom burgers, pancakes, gnochii with sp. sauce, peanut butter and banana toast, wraps, salads, and more! On Monday we are going to start our training. I am trying to talk the family into doing a 5k with me. Why in the world would I do that when I hate to run? Who knows! It's something I've decided I want to do! We will see how well I like running after week 1. At least it's not all running...there is cardio and strength training as well.
The good news about eating healthy is that Aaron and I both have dropped about 3 lbs this week! WOO HOO!!!! =)

Lunch

For lunch we were supposed to have stuffed pitas with hummus, but I forgot to buy pitas at the store! I did make the hummus and it is YUM-O! I also made the salsa and it is delish! Remember to check out the engine2academy.com for the recipes!
SO, instead we had black bean tacos with salsa. YUMMY! I think Garrett ate almost the whole pan of beans himself. Then I had a Fuji apple with Almond Butter.
For dinner we are having E2 Spinach Starter Salad & Gnocchi with E2 Basics Red Sauce. So far I have liked everything I've eaten. It was rather strange not to have cheese or sour cream on my tacos, but they were still very good.
Day 1 is going well so far! Let's hope the other 27 days will be this easy! =)
